A British IPTV service is a television subscription delivered over your broadband and watched in an app, and TellyWren is a British IPTV subscription sold in pounds sterling from tellywren.com (formerly British IPTV). There is no satellite dish and no cable box: you buy a plan, receive personal log-in details and enter them in a compatible app on a device you already own.
What a British IPTV service is
IPTV means internet protocol television. Instead of a signal arriving through an aerial or a dish, the channels, and the on-demand films and series where a plan includes them, are streamed to an app over your internet line. "British" describes who the service is aimed at: viewers in the UK, with prices in pounds, support in UK hours and set-up guides written for British homes and devices. It does not mean that any broadcaster is involved with the service. TellyWren is a reseller, and the subscriptions run on servers operated by the providers whose service it resells.
If you want the background in plain language, the guide to IPTV in the UK explained covers it, and the Legal and licensing page says what TellyWren does and does not supply. Watching live television in the UK on any service still needs a TV Licence, which TellyWren neither sells nor includes.
The two TellyWren plans
There are two plans, and both are a one-off payment for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. Standard is a personal log-in that you enter in the compatible IPTV app of your choice. Premium is used through the AromaOtt player app, which the owner of TellyWren also runs, and you sign in with a username and password instead of pasting playlist links. Prices are shown in pounds and the price shown is the price you pay.
- Standard: £12.99 for 1 month, £24.99 for 3 months, £34.99 for 6 months and £49.99 for 12 months.
- Premium: £17.99 for 1 month, £34.99 for 3 months, £49.99 for 6 months and £64.99 for 12 months.
The full table sits on the IPTV subscription UK plans page. If you are weighing the money rather than the idea, the UK IPTV subscription buyer's guide sets out what to check before paying, and Standard or Premium compares the two plans side by side.
What is included
Every plan comes with the same practical support. Log-in details are sent by WhatsApp after your order, there are set-up guides by device on this site, and support answers set-up questions on WhatsApp from 9 am to 2 am UK time. Standard works with the compatible IPTV app you already use. Premium adds the AromaOtt player app with a TV mode made for the remote, sign-in on the TV by a code from your phone, films and episodes that pick up where you left off, and a My List saved to your account on every device you sign in on.
The channel line-up is described in the guide to the UK IPTV channel list, and it can change over time, so read it before you order. On-demand sections are covered in IPTV films on demand, and sport channels explains what to check first if live sport is your reason for looking.
Devices that work
A British IPTV subscription needs a device that can run a compatible app and a broadband line. Common choices are an Amazon Fire TV Stick, Samsung and LG Smart TVs, Android TV and Google TV boxes, Apple TV, Android phones and tablets, and iPhone and iPad. Each has its own short guide: start with IPTV on a Fire TV Stick or IPTV on a Samsung or LG Smart TV. Availability of an app varies by model and region, so if you are unsure about your device, ask on WhatsApp before you buy. Premium and its app are described on the AromaOtt player page.
How to start
Pick a plan and a duration, press the order button and pay once in pounds. Your log-in details follow by WhatsApp while support is open, then you install an app and enter them. The how it works page walks through each step. If you are new to the idea, the shortest commitment is a single month, which lets you see how the service behaves on your own broadband before you choose a longer plan.
Honest limits
A few things are worth knowing before you buy, and we would rather say them here than have you find them later.
- TellyWren is a reseller, not the operator of the servers. Some faults are fixed by the providers rather than by us, and we will say so when that is the case.
- Apps other than AromaOtt belong to their own publishers. They are named only as compatible and are not made or sold by TellyWren.
- Picture quality depends on your screen and your broadband; around 10 Mbps per HD stream is a sensible working minimum, an indicative figure rather than a statement about your line.
- Support is on WhatsApp from 9 am to 2 am UK time. Messages sent outside those hours are answered from 9 am.
- The service is a stream over the internet, so it needs a steady connection. A cable to the router is steadier than Wi-Fi.
Using it outside the UK
Because the service is an internet stream, it works wherever you have broadband or mobile data good enough for video. Prices stay in pounds, and if you live outside the UK you should ask on WhatsApp before you buy whether your order can be accepted. The guide on British TV in Spain covers what changes when you are abroad.
Questions before you order
